2 Coverings – man method (Genesis 3:7)
The book of Genesis is a book of beginnings. It explains the origin of all life and is essential reading for every Christian. That is why it’s the most attacked book in the Bible, for Psalm 11:3 warns that, ‘If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?’
The serpent was able to redefine the forbidden tree and make it appear as something to be desired. He redefined the consequences stated by God, and this resulted in the first man and the first woman partaking of the forbidden fruit. Once they had committed the transgression, what was the first respond of Adam and Eve? They rushed to hide their sin by sewing a garment of fig leaves for themselves. ‘And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons’ (Genesis 3:7)
Since then, the human race has been sewing ‘fig leaves’ in a variety of forms as cover-ups for falling short of God’s glorious standard. We can do one of two things with the Truth: cover it up or acknowledge it. However, like Adam and Eve, we soon realise that cover-ups are futile in the presence of God.
